1974 Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco was introduced in 1966, and was intended to compete with the International Scout and Jeep CJ-5. The Compact SUV was conceived by Ford Product Manager Donald Frey, the same man who had conceived the Mustang. Born with approval from Lee Iacocca, the first generation Bronco would be a hit for Ford.

Based on an entirely new platform, the body-on-frame Bronco would be initially offered with a 170 ci. inline 6-cylinder engine, and 3-speed transmission. In 1966 the Bronco got the venerable 289 ci. V-8, which grew to 302 ci. In 1969. All Broncos came equipped with four wheel drive, and a nearly bullet-proof Dana 20 transfer case. The rear axle is the ubiquitous Ford 9 inch. Again, reliability and serviceability were paramount. That drive for utter reliability spurred Ford to change the front axle from a Dana 30 to a Dana 44 from 1971 onward.

Option sheets at your local Ford dealer were quite impressive. You could order a Bronco with bucket front seats, a bench rear seat, a tachometer, a CB radio, a tow bar, an auxiliary fuel tank, a power take off, snowplow, and even a post hole digger!

This Truck is a 1974 model, Bronco Sport. The Sport designation meant this truck came through with the exterior chrome trim, and red painted Ford lettering on the grille. Sporting it’s original 302 ci. V-8 engine, and a modern 5-speed manual transmission, updated bucket and rear bench seats, a modern digital gauge cluster, and name brand lift-kit, this Bronco is ready to take on the Baja 1000! If the daily commute is your idea of a rough ride, the original hard-top that is included with the vehicle might be a welcome sight. Come summer, that bikini top will keep you out of the direct sun, but can always be easily stowed away for open-top motoring at the beach!

The list of tasteful modifications to this beauty is fairly extensive, and is available upon request. Keep in mind, though that the original 3-speed transmission and seats are also included with the original hardtop!
